COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Language Policy and Planning at Bangor University combines core and optional modules to provide a comprehensive understanding of language management in bilingual and multilingual contexts. Core modules include the Research Process or Research Methods in Education with Quantitative Methods, Language Planning, and a Dissertation, which allow students to develop advanced research skills and apply them to real-world language policy and planning issues. These modules provide a strong foundation in the principles, methods, and strategies essential for analysing language use, assessing policy impacts, and designing interventions to promote linguistic equality. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals, covering topics such as Aspects of Bilingualism, Work-Based Learning, the History of the Welsh Language, Linguistic Rights, Diversity and Human Rights, Public Sector Management, Law and Devolution in Wales and Europe, and Current Issues in Bilingualism. This combination of theoretical knowledge, applied learning, and research training equips graduates with the expertise to engage with complex social, cultural, and legal questions surrounding language policy and planning. Students develop skills that are highly relevant for roles in government, education, health, IT, marketing, and other sectors where language management and multilingual communication are increasingly important, particularly in contexts influenced by recent Welsh and European legislation.
