COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Education Studies includes a carefully structured curriculum designed to deepen understanding of key areas in the field of education while providing the flexibility to pursue individual research interests. Students must complete a total of 180 credits, combining compulsory taught modules, core research training, and a dissertation. The compulsory modules, each worth 30 credits, cover critical themes in education such as Educational Leadership, Curriculum Development, and Assessment in Education. These modules provide a foundation in the practical and theoretical aspects of leading educational change, designing effective curricula, and implementing and evaluating assessment strategies within a variety of educational settings.In addition to these, students are required to complete the core module in Research Methods in Education (30 credits), which equips them with essential skills for conducting academic research. This module focuses on developing a critical understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methods, preparing students for the demands of educational inquiry and evidence-based practice.For the final component of the degree, students select one of two 60-credit dissertation pathways: Dissertation: Research Design or Dissertation: Applied Research Study. These pathways allow students to engage in a significant piece of independent research under supervision, applying what they have learned throughout the course to explore a topic of personal or professional relevance. The dissertation provides an opportunity to demonstrate advanced critical thinking, methodological skills, and academic writing, serving as a culmination of the program’s academic and practical training. The structure of the MA in Education Studies is ideal for students aiming to pursue leadership roles in education, move into research or policy work, or continue onto doctoral study, as it balances theoretical knowledge with practical application and research competence.
