COURSE CURRICULUM
As a student on this course, you will explore key debates and contemporary issues affecting the lives of children and young people in today’s society. The program examines how childhood is understood and represented culturally and socially in the 21st century, and investigates children’s rights from both local and global perspectives. You will analyse the environments and spaces that children occupy and how these shape their experiences and identities, as well as consider the growing impact of surveillance and policing on young people. The course also explores themes such as youth vulnerability, exploitation and development, enabling a deeper awareness of the challenges faced by young people in changing social conditions. Family life is another important area of study, including the evolving nature of family structures and their influence on children’s wellbeing. An emphasis on research forms a core part of the program, equipping students with the skills needed to ethically and effectively research children’s lives. All students undertake a research project based around their own interests or professional context, supporting specialist development and real-world application. The course ultimately prepares graduates to contribute thoughtfully and practically to improving the lives of children and young people through informed, critical, and evidence-based practice.
