COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM Laws program offers a flexible and academically rigorous curriculum that allows students to tailor their studies to their individual interests across a wide range of legal specialisms. All students complete core modules in legal research methods and a dissertation, which together provide a strong foundation in advanced legal research, critical analysis, and independent study. The legal research methods module develops essential skills in legal writing, research design, and the use of appropriate methodologies to investigate complex legal questions, preparing students for their dissertation and for future research or professional careers. The dissertation module enables students to conduct in-depth research on a chosen legal topic, applying advanced analytical and evaluative skills to a substantial piece of independent work. Alongside these compulsory components, students select optional modules covering key areas of international, commercial, environmental, and criminology-related law. These options may include intellectual property law, international commercial arbitration, public international law, international criminal law, international human rights law, and global trade law. Students can also explore contemporary and emerging areas such as international climate change law and policy, transnational crime, comparative international criminal justice, business and human rights law, cultural heritage in international law, and current issues in international environmental law. This broad choice enables students to develop specialised expertise while gaining a comprehensive understanding of global legal challenges and practice.
