COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB (Hons) Law with Politics program integrates core legal education with the study of political systems, ideas, and public policy, providing a strong interdisciplinary perspective. In Year 1, students develop foundational legal knowledge through compulsory modules in contract law, criminal law, legal skills, and law, justice and procedure, while also studying key political topics such as the principles of politics and the development of UK politics from the post-war period to the present. Year 2 builds on this foundation with advanced compulsory law modules in tort law, land law, public law, and equity and trusts, alongside politics modules that explore twentieth-century political ideas and movements and introduce social and political research methods. In Year 3, students complete a compulsory module in European Union law focusing on power, principles, and rights, reflecting the close relationship between law and politics. Students then tailor their studies through a wide choice of optional law modules covering specialist and practice-oriented areas such as international law, criminal evidence, commercial law, medical law and ethics, law and technology, and work placements. Politics options allow further specialisation in areas including political philosophy, globalisation, environmental politics, social inequality, housing policy, and authoritarian regimes. The final year also includes a compulsory professional skills pathway and the option to complete a dissertation, enabling students to develop advanced research, analytical, and practical skills for careers in law, public policy, politics, or further academic study.
