COURSE CURRICULUM

This program combines core legal study with a strong criminology focus, allowing students to explore both law and the social dimensions of crime across three years. In Year 1, students complete foundational law modules in contract law, criminal law, legal skills, and law, justice and procedure, developing essential legal reasoning, research, and communication abilities. Alongside this, students take 40 credits in criminology, choosing introductory modules in criminology and criminal justice delivered in either English or Welsh, which introduce key concepts, institutions, and approaches to understanding crime and justice. Year 2 deepens legal knowledge through compulsory modules in tort law, land law, public law, and equity and trusts, while further criminology study examines crime and justice in modern Britain and key criminological theories, strengthening analytical and critical perspectives. In Year 3, students complete a compulsory module in European Union law and advanced criminology modules focusing on youth crime and the relationships between power, crime, and punishment. Students also select optional law modules from a wide range of specialist and practice-focused areas, including criminal evidence, international law, family and welfare law, commercial law, medical law and ethics, law and technology, and work placement opportunities. The final year includes a choice between professional skills pathways and the option to undertake a dissertation, preparing graduates for legal practice, postgraduate study, or careers in criminal justice.
