COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB (Hons) Criminal Law is a three-year undergraduate program in which students complete 120 credits each year while developing a strong foundation in legal principles and criminal justice. In Year 1, students study core subjects including contract law, criminal law, legal skills, and law, justice and procedure, alongside introductory modules in criminology or criminal justice. Optional modules allow students to explore related areas such as criminal psychology, social influence, and the application of psychological theory to real-world problems. Year 2 focuses on essential areas of substantive and public law through compulsory modules in tort law, criminal evidence, land law, public law, and equity and trusts. Students also choose optional modules examining contemporary issues such as crime and justice in modern Britain, crime and the media, or digital policing and e-crime. In Year 3, students study European Union law as a compulsory module and tailor their degree through a wide range of options. These include advanced topics such as organised crime, counter-terrorism, youth crime, forensic psychology, policing, and power and punishment. Students may also choose professional and practice-focused modules, a work placement, legal advice clinics, or complete a criminal law dissertation. Overall, the program develops legal knowledge, critical thinking, research, and practical skills for careers in law and criminal justice.
