COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Zoology program is a three-year degree requiring students to complete 120 credits per year. In the first year, students study core modules including Ecology and Evolution, Principles of Life, Organismal Diversity 1 and 2, Practical and Field Skills for Biological Scientists, and Year 1 Tutorials, with options in English or Welsh. The second year includes compulsory modules such as Ecology: Interactions in the Natural World, Becoming a Researcher, and Evolutionary Biology, alongside optional modules in areas like Geospatial Data Skills, Research Experience in Zoology, Climate Change, Principles of Conservation, Introduction to Primatology, Molecular Biology, Marine Zoology, Animal Management, and a range of field courses including locations such as North Wales, Canada, the Caribbean, Arizona, India, and Florida. Additional optional modules cover Plant Diversity, Conservation Practice, Herpetology, Ornithology, Behavioural Ecology, Microbiology, Comparative Physiology, Invertebrates, and further field courses. In the third year, students complete compulsory modules including Animals and Their Environments, Independent Dissertation Research, and Science Communication Skills. Optional modules allow students to specialize in areas such as Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, Applied Botany, Freshwater Ecosystems, Molecular Ecology, Evolution and Development, Parasites and Pathogens, Animal Reproductive Strategies, Venoms and Toxins, Life in a Changing Climate, Attack and Defense in Plants, Human Evolutionary Biology, Insect Behaviour, Animal Survival Strategies, and Life in Wetlands, providing flexibility to tailor studies to individual interests and career goals in zoology and related biological sciences.
