COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Wildlife Ecology and Conservation degree at Bangor University offers a comprehensive, research-led program designed to develop students’ knowledge and practical skills in ecology, conservation, and environmental science. In the first year, students study core modules in ecology, evolution, ecosystem function, environmental management, and organismal diversity, while developing essential practical and field skills and research methods. Year two builds on this foundation with compulsory modules in conservation principles, conservation practice, and becoming a researcher, alongside a wide range of optional modules covering topics such as marine ecology, primatology, invertebrates, behavioural ecology, plant diversity, and geospatial data skills. Students also have opportunities to participate in field courses in locations including the Caribbean, India, Florida, Arizona, Canada, and Spain, enhancing hands-on learning and global conservation perspectives. In the third year, students focus on advanced topics in wildlife ecology, conservation, and applied ecology, undertaking an independent dissertation research project and a science communication module. Additional optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as forest ecology, applied botany, freshwater ecosystems, environmental policy, advanced GIS, marine conservation, and the human dimensions of conservation. The degree equips graduates with the expertise, field experience, and research skills needed to tackle contemporary environmental challenges and contribute to global conservation efforts.
