COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport Science, Physical Education and Coaching degree at Bangor University provides a comprehensive education in physical education, coaching, sport science, and applied psychology. In the first year, students develop foundational skills in professional life, research methods, sport and exercise psychology, human physiology, pedagogy for physical education, and scientific communication, along with opportunities for work experience. In the second year, the focus shifts to skill acquisition, sports psychology application, advanced pedagogy, sport and exercise physiology, and research methods, equipping students with practical and theoretical expertise required for effective coaching and teaching. In the final year, students take core modules in physical literacy, behaviour change, and talent identification, while choosing optional modules such as exercise for health, applied psychological interventions, stress and performance, psychophysiology, advanced strength and conditioning, and applied sport science of elite performance. Research is a central component, with students undertaking a 40-credit research project or dissertation, enabling them to develop independent investigative skills, analyze data, and apply findings to real-world contexts. The degree emphasizes hands-on learning, interdisciplinary knowledge, and evidence-based practice, preparing graduates for careers as PE teachers, sports coaches, sport scientists, performance analysts, and related roles, while fostering the skills necessary to support individual and team development in diverse physical and psychological contexts.
