COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Psychology at Bangor University provides a comprehensive study of psychological principles applied to sport, exercise, and health. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge in sport and exercise psychology, human physiology, brain and mind, and stress and mental health, alongside research methods and scientific communication skills, with options to study in English or Welsh. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules in skill acquisition, sports psychology theory and application, developmental, cognitive and biological psychology, social psychology, and advanced research methods. Students develop analytical and practical skills essential for understanding human behaviour in sport and exercise contexts. In Year 3, students complete a 40-credit research project, further honing independent research abilities, and study personality and individual differences. The final year also offers 60 credits of optional modules, including environmental physiology, stress and performance, exercise for health, applied psychological interventions, talent identification, physical literacy, psychophysiology of sport and exercise, applied sport science of elite performance, cognitive neuroscience, counselling skills, applied behaviour analysis, and forensic psychology, among others. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, interdisciplinary learning, and the application of psychological theories to real-world scenarios, preparing graduates for careers in sport psychology, exercise science, health promotion, coaching, and related fields, with strong foundations for further study or professional practice.
