COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology program is a three-year course designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of psychological theories, research methods, and applied practices. In Year 1, students complete 120 credits, including compulsory modules such as Stress and Distress in Health and Mental Health, Brain and Mind, Human Language and its Disorders, Applying Psychological Theory to Real-world Problems, Criminal Psychology, and Social Influence, alongside core research skills modules in English or Welsh and scientific writing modules. Year 2 also requires 120 credits and builds on foundational knowledge with compulsory modules in Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Biological Psychology, Personality and Individual Differences, Behavioural Psychology, Aspects of Clinical Psychology, and Conceptual and Historical Issues in Psychology, with students completing Research Methods 3 and 4 and Developmental Psychology. Students may also undertake a short-term work placement. In Year 3, students take 120 credits, including a 40-credit project in English or Welsh and 80 credits of optional modules covering topics such as Cognitive Neuroscience, Control of Mental Processes, Counselling Skills, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Forensic Psychology, Brain Development, Psychophysiology of Eating, The Social Brain, and specialised areas like Children, Families, and Society, and Neuroaesthetics. The program integrates theoretical knowledge, research proficiency, and practical application, preparing graduates for careers in clinical, educational, and applied psychology, research, or further professional training.
