COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Professional Policing is a three-year program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical understanding required for a career in modern policing. In Year 1, students complete 120 credits through core modules that cover foundational aspects of policing, including Understanding the Police Constable Role and Powers, Policing Communities and Partnerships, Police Accountability and the Code of Ethics, Vulnerability, Risk and Public Protection, Police Investigations, and Introduction to Criminology and Crime Prevention. Year 2 also requires 120 credits, combining core modules in specialized areas such as Policing the Roads, Investigating Complex Crimes, Digital Policing and E-Crime, Methods for Evidence-based Policing, Community Policing: Values and Principles, and a choice between Applying Theory to Practice in English or Welsh, focusing on crime and victim studies. In Year 3, students take 120 credits including compulsory modules that address advanced and contemporary issues in policing, such as Youth Crime, Vulnerability and Abuse, Organised Crime and Counter-terrorism, Strategic Thinking in Policing, Advanced Understanding of the Police Constable Role, and an Evidence-based Policing Dissertation. Students also choose one optional module from Empirical Evidence-based Policing Project or Reflecting on Work or Volunteering Experience. The program blends theoretical knowledge, research skills, and practical insights, preparing graduates for professional roles in law enforcement, investigative work, and community-focused policing.
