COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Pharmacology degree is structured over three years, with students taking up to 120 credits each year. In Year 1, core modules provide a foundation in molecular and cellular biology, human physiology and anatomy, therapeutics, microbiology, chemistry, biomedical practicals, and good laboratory practice, with options to study key modules in either English or Welsh. These modules develop essential laboratory, analytical, and research skills alongside scientific knowledge. Year 2 builds on this foundation with compulsory modules including Clinical Physiology, Principles of Pharmacology, Cancer Pharmacology, Applied Pharmacology Practical, Human Immunology, and Cardiovascular, Renal and Respiratory Pharmacology. Vocational and research skills are further developed, and students may choose a short-term summer work placement to gain practical industry experience. In Year 3, students undertake a major research project alongside core modules in Applied Medical Pharmacology, Microbiology and Human Disease, Pharmacology and Drug Development, Pharmacogenomics, and Pharmacoeconomics and Health Technology Assessment, with some modules available in Welsh. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry, and Contemporary Issues in Medical Science. Across all years, the program emphasizes hands-on laboratory work, practical applications, and integration of biomedical science with clinical and regulatory knowledge, preparing graduates for careers in pharmaceutical research, clinical practice, and healthcare policy.
