COURSE CURRICULUM

This BSc (Hons) Ocean and Geophysics program consists of three years of study, each totalling 120 credits. In Year 1, students build a foundation in key earth and marine science principles through compulsory modules such as Earth Systems and Processes, Earth, Climate and Evolution, Fundamentals of Oceanography, Anglesey Geology Field Course and Marine Biogeochemistry. They also take modules in Environmental Data Analysis and a Science Skills Tutorial, available in either English or Welsh. Year 2 develops specialised knowledge in estuarine and shelf sea processes, geophysics and remote sensing, tides, waves and marine energy, and ice–ocean interactions. Students gain practical ship-based fieldwork experience and further develop communication skills through a science communication module, again available in English or Welsh. In Year 3, advanced study focuses on sediment dynamics, numerical methods for oceanographers and oceans, atmosphere and climate. Students also complete an independent dissertation project, choosing either English or Welsh as the language of delivery. Optional modules allow flexibility, enabling students to specialise through subjects such as Coastal Processes Field Study, Ocean Modelling and Applied Geophysics. Across all years, hands-on learning and field-based research skills are central components of the program.
