COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Forestry at Bangor University provides a comprehensive, three-year curriculum designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional competence required for a career in forestry and woodland management. In the first year, students gain a foundation in forestry and environmental sciences, studying modules such as Forestry in the Twenty-First Century, Ecosystem Function and Services, Environmental Management and Conservation, and Trees, Forests and Global Change, alongside practical and field skills for forestry and tutorials. In the second year, the focus expands to applied forestry and research, including Sustainable Forest Management, Forest Health, Silviculture and Inventory, Geospatial Data Skills, and a UK Forestry Study Tour, while also developing research skills through a Becoming a Researcher module. The final year emphasizes professional practice and independent research, with compulsory modules such as Forest and Woodland Management Plan, Forest Ecology, Professional Practice for Forestry and Woodland Management, and a choice of dissertation or final year project. Optional modules allow students to specialise further in areas such as Environmental Policy, Field Courses, Agroforestry, Advanced GIS and Remote Sensing, Catchment Modelling and Analysis, Forest Ecosystems and Services, and Urban Forestry. The degree combines classroom-based learning, fieldwork, practical experience, and research-informed study to prepare graduates for professional roles and potential chartered status in forestry, conservation, and environmental management.
