COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Environmental Science program is structured over three years, with students completing 120 credits annually through a combination of compulsory and optional modules. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge in earth systems, ecosystem function, and environmental chemistry, alongside extensive practical and field skills training. Module selection may depend on prior chemistry qualifications, with tailored options available, and tutorial support provided in English or Welsh. Year 2 develops applied scientific and research skills through modules such as Catchment Processes, Water, Air and Soil Pollution, Environmental Conflicts fieldwork, Instrumental Methods, and Becoming a Researcher. Students also choose optional modules in areas such as geospatial data skills, climate change, natural hazards, plant diversity, or evolutionary biology. In Year 3, the focus shifts to advanced topics including Environmental Geochemistry and Global Challenges in energy and waste. A substantial independent dissertation and science communication training strengthen research and professional skills. Students further tailor their studies through optional modules covering rivers and oceans, environmental policy, forest and freshwater ecosystems, modelling, international field courses, and environmental issues. The program combines scientific theory, practical field experience, and research expertise to prepare graduates for environmental careers or further study.
