COURSE CURRICULUM

The program offers a comprehensive, hands-on approach to computing and creative technologies across three years. In Year 1, students undertake 120 credits, beginning with compulsory modules such as Professional Perspectives, Web Technologies, Imperative Programming Foundations, and Introduction to Embedded Systems. These introduce foundational skills in scientific writing, programming, web development, and embedded systems using platforms like Arduino. Students also choose additional modules including Mathematics for Computing, Creative Practice, or Media Practice, allowing for interdisciplinary development.Year 2 builds on these foundations with another 120 credits, focusing on real-world project experience and interdisciplinary learning. Key compulsory modules include Industrial Projects, where students work through the software development lifecycle; Human-Computer Interaction for User Experience, teaching interface design and evaluation; and AI and Game Design, blending artificial intelligence with game development. Other compulsory modules cover fabrication techniques, storytelling, and interactive sound and music, enhancing both technical and creative capabilities. In Year 3, students complete an Individual Project and a Research Methods module, supported by additional compulsory modules like Civic Computing Intervention and Systems and Design Thinking. They can also opt for placements—either a year-long industrial placement or a summer placement—to gain valuable work experience. The final 40 credits come from a wide range of optional modules including Creative Visualisation, Information Visualisation, Internet of Things, and Advanced Game Development. These electives enable students to specialize in areas aligned with personal interests and career goals. Throughout the course, there is a strong emphasis on industry engagement, real-life briefs, and the development of a diverse set of skills in both the digital and creative sectors. This integrated approach ensures graduates are well-prepared for roles in software development, digital design, interactive media, and emerging tech industries.
