COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science program provides a comprehensive and practical education in computing, equipping students with strong theoretical foundations and industry-relevant skills. In Year 1, students gain essential knowledge through modules such as Professional Perspectives, Mathematics for Computing, Web Technologies, Computer Architecture and Operating Systems, Database Systems, Object-Oriented Programming, and Imperative Programming Foundations. These modules develop programming skills, an understanding of hardware and software systems, mathematical competence, and foundational web and database development.In Year 2, the focus shifts to real-world applications and advanced programming. Core modules include Industrial Projects, Business and Enterprise Programming, Human-Computer Interaction for User Experience, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Computer Systems and Networks. Students also choose an optional module such as Prototyping and Fabrication, Data Systems, Management and Ethics, or AI and Game Design, allowing for specialization based on interests. These modules emphasize collaborative work, critical thinking, user-focused design, and advanced technical implementation.In Year 3, students undertake an Individual Project and study Research Methods and Software Engineering. They also have the option to complete a Summer Placement to gain industry experience. Semester-based electives allow for further specialization. In Semester 1, options include Computer Vision, Using Data Structures in Applications, Embedded Systems, Computer and Network Security, Principles of Machine Learning, and Advanced Game Development. In Semester 2, students choose from Creative Visualisation, Internet of Things, or Advanced Data Management and Analytics. These modules offer opportunities to work with emerging technologies and develop systems relevant to fields such as AI, cybersecurity, IoT, and game development. Throughout the program, students build a robust portfolio of skills, preparing them for careers across the digital and technology sectors.
