COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science program is a three-year degree requiring students to complete 120 credits per year. In the first year, students study core modules including Foundations in Therapeutics, Introduction to Cell Biology, Applied Laboratory Sciences, Key Skills in Medical Science, Human Physiology and Anatomy, and Chemistry and Biochemistry, with options in English or Welsh. These modules provide a strong foundation in the principles of biomedical science, laboratory techniques, and key scientific skills. In the second year, students continue with compulsory modules such as Applied Biomedical Practicals, Professional Practice, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Blood Sciences, Infectious Sciences, and Cell and Molecular Pathology. Optional opportunities include short-term work placements or a non-clinical placement year to gain practical experience. In the third year, students complete advanced modules including Medical Genetics and Genomics, Advanced Infectious Sciences, Advanced Blood Sciences, and Advanced Cellular and Molecular Pathology. They also undertake a Research Project and the Biomedical Science in Practice module, which focuses on professional registration requirements. The program integrates theoretical knowledge with extensive practical and laboratory training, preparing students for careers in biomedical research, healthcare, clinical laboratories, and related scientific fields, while providing flexibility to tailor study choices according to career goals and professional requirements.
