COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Accounting and Finance program spans three years, providing a comprehensive foundation in key areas of financial and managerial accounting, business management, and finance. In Year 1, students must complete 120 credits, including core modules such as Discover Economics, Principles of Management and Organisation, Financial Accounting, and Management Accounting. These modules introduce students to economic thinking, business structures, organisational behaviour, and basic accounting principles. Additionally, students select one 20-credit module focused on Business Analytics, offered in English or Welsh, to build analytical and data interpretation skills using tools like Microsoft Excel.Year 2 builds on the foundational knowledge with 120 credits, 80 of which are compulsory. Key modules include Financial Reporting, Corporate Finance, and Law for Business. These focus on financial statement preparation, financial decision-making, and understanding legal principles relevant to business operations. Students progressing from Year 1 take the Management Accounting module, while direct-entry students take a tailored module, Principles of Management Accounting, to bridge their learning and prepare them for the next level.In Year 3, students complete another 120 credits with compulsory modules including Auditing, Advanced Accounting Theory and Practice, Advanced Corporate Finance, and Taxation. These modules enhance expertise in auditing practices, advanced financial theories, stakeholder issues, and tax regulations. Depending on their entry path, students may also be required to take additional modules in Management Accounting and Law for Business to ensure they meet the program’s learning outcomes. These final-year courses deepen students' practical and theoretical knowledge, preparing them for professional accountancy qualifications and a broad range of financial careers. The course is designed to provide flexibility for direct-entry students while maintaining rigorous academic and practical training for all, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for global financial roles or further professional studies.
