COURSE CURRICULUM

The BMedSci (Hons) Medical Sciences is a three-year undergraduate degree designed to provide a strong scientific and clinical foundation in medical science. In the first year, students study core modules covering molecules and cells, chemistry, therapeutics, microbiology, human physiology and anatomy, biomedical practicals, good laboratory practice, and key skills in medical science, with some modules available in English or Welsh. These modules introduce essential laboratory techniques, scientific principles, and an understanding of human biology. In the second year, learning becomes more clinically focused through compulsory modules such as Therapeutics and Practice, Clinical Anatomy, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Vocational and Research Skills, Clinical Physiology, and Applied Clinical Technologies. Students may also undertake a short-term work placement during the summer to gain practical experience. In the final year, students develop advanced knowledge through modules including Applied Anatomy, Applied Physiology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology and Drug Development, and Contemporary Issues in Medical Science. A major component of the degree is the 40-credit research project, allowing students to apply research skills to an independent study. The program prepares graduates for careers in healthcare, biomedical research, postgraduate study, and related scientific professions by integrating theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and clinical relevance.
