COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Engineering degree is taught by lecturers with strong industry links, ensuring students gain practical insight into how engineering principles operate in real-world settings. Drawing on active research in areas such as low-carbon energy, the course provides a solid foundation in essential engineering topics including kinematics, thermodynamics, mechanics, materials, and industry best practice. Alongside these fundamentals, students explore modern digital and green skills, gaining familiarity with finite element methods for analysing stress, heat transfer, and computational fluid dynamics. Close collaboration with electronic engineering and computer science enriches the curriculum with mechatronics, digital control systems, machine learning, and computer-aided design. Practical experience is embedded throughout, with early opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge to real scenarios and build functioning prototypes using digital design and fabrication techniques. Projects reflect real industry challenges, from drones for infrastructure inspection to energy-storage solutions for solar power. Optional placement years or summer placements offer further hands-on experience. In the final year, students undertake substantial projects that mirror the demands of diverse engineering sectors, tackling cutting-edge topics such as nuclear fuels for lunar bases, solar farm development, and virtual-reality data exploration. The program is offered as a three-year BEng, a four-year BEng with Foundation Year, or a four-year integrated MEng.
