COURSE CURRICULUM

This undergraduate Media program is structured over three years and combines creative practice, critical theory, and professional skills, allowing students to tailor their studies to film, journalism, screen media, and digital culture. In Year 1, students complete 120 credits, beginning with the compulsory module Adventures in the Creative Arts, which introduces creative thinking and interdisciplinary media practice. Optional modules allow students to explore key media debates in journalism and politics, visual cultures, and creative practice, alongside practical pathways in screenwriting, film language, and media production delivered in English or Welsh. Year 2 builds depth and specialisation through a wide choice of media, film, and journalism modules. Students engage with media politics and society, film theory and history, short film and documentary production, research methods, media law, climate change and culture, artificial intelligence ethics, and global film industries. Opportunities to develop professional and collaborative skills are offered through screenwriting and professional practice modules. In Year 3, students complete a major research or creative practice dissertation worth 40 credits, supported by advanced optional modules. These include auteur studies, journalism, documentary filmmaking, digital publishing, popular music, cultural criticism, film distribution and marketing, and industry-focused screenwriting. The program develops strong analytical, creative, technical, and professional capabilities, preparing graduates for careers in film, television, journalism, digital media, cultural industries, or for postgraduate study.
