COURSE CURRICULUM

This program combines Drama and Media studies across three years, allowing students to balance creative practice, performance, screenwriting, and critical media analysis. In Year 1, students complete 120 credits, split evenly between Drama and Media, with Adventures in the Creative Arts as a shared foundation module. Drama focuses on storytelling and theatre making through compulsory modules in screenwriting and theatre or devised performance, while optional choices introduce European theatre, creative practice, and film language. Media study develops critical awareness through modules on journalism, politics, visual cultures, and practical media production. In Year 2, students again balance Drama and Media equally. Drama develops professional and personal performance skills through compulsory modules in professional practice and theatre and performance, alongside options such as screenwriting, short film production, Welsh-language theatre, and community arts placement. Media modules explore contemporary issues including climate change, politics, privacy, artificial intelligence, research methods, and documentary filmmaking. In Year 3, students complete a major project in either Drama or Media, supported by further modules to maintain the balance between disciplines. Advanced options include screenwriting for the industry, directing, contemporary theatre practice, Welsh-language drama, wellbeing-focused performance, and a wide range of media modules covering journalism, digital media, advertising, documentary filmmaking, and social issues. The program develops strong creative, analytical, and professional skills, preparing graduates for careers in theatre, film, media, and related creative industries or for further academic study.
