COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) History and Music program offers an integrated study of historical inquiry alongside musical practice, theory, and context, with students completing 120 credits each year split evenly between the two subjects. In Year 1, students develop core academic skills through a compulsory history module introducing historical methods and approaches, while music study begins with a compulsory creative arts module and a choice of performance, composition, harmony, and music history options. History choices span Welsh, British, European, medieval, and modern topics, with bilingual modules available. Year 2 builds depth and independence, allowing students to select from a wide range of history modules covering global, British, Welsh, and thematic histories, including work placement opportunities, while music study expands into teaching, ensembles, community arts, musicology, composition, and performance. In Year 3, students specialise further by choosing advanced music options or a major music project in performance, composition, or musicology, combined with advanced history modules or a history dissertation. Students balance practical and theoretical learning across both disciplines, developing strong analytical, research, creative, and communication skills. The program prepares graduates for careers in education, music and cultural industries, heritage, media, community arts, and further postgraduate study by combining critical historical understanding with creative musical expertise.
