COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Health and Social Care degree is structured across three years, with each year combining compulsory and optional modules to provide a comprehensive understanding of health, social care, and wellbeing. In Year 1, students study foundational subjects such as Behaviour and Health, Health and Society, Health and Welfare Issues, Fundamentals of Sociology, Research and Study Skills, and Vulnerable Populations, giving a broad grounding in the social and health sciences. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules including The Sociology of Health and Illness, Comparative Health and Welfare, Ageing and Wellbeing in Society, Interpreting Health, Social Care and Wellbeing, and Research Methods for the Dissertation Proposal, alongside optional modules like Health, Care and Culture or Social Work Perspectives, allowing students to tailor learning to specific interests. In Year 3, students focus on advanced topics and professional application through a 40-credit Dissertation, Principles of Public Health and Health Promotion, Mental Health and Society, Health Policy: Development, Dissemination, Implementation and Evaluation, and Global Health and Social Care. Across all years, the course integrates theory and practical learning, emphasizing research skills, critical analysis, policy understanding, and the social dimensions of health. Graduates gain the knowledge and expertise needed to work effectively in health, social care, policy, and public health settings, both locally and internationally.
