COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Geography degree at Bangor University provides a comprehensive exploration of the relationships between people, places, and the environment, combining human and physical geography to address pressing global challenges. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in earth systems, environmental processes, human geography, and fieldwork in North Wales, alongside modules in environmental data analysis and tutorials to develop academic and practical skills. Optional modules allow for further exploration of topics such as social divisions, politics, and physical geography, including ecosystems and climate. In the second year, the focus shifts to advanced study of climate change, sustainable development, geospatial data skills, natural hazards, catchment processes, and research skills, supported by compulsory and optional modules to develop fieldwork, analytical, and technical expertise. The final year emphasizes independent research and critical thinking, with students undertaking a dissertation while choosing optional modules covering advanced GIS, rivers, coasts and oceans, sustainable communities, food geographies, governance, urbanization, and environmental policy. Opportunities for professional placements, field courses, and out-of-college modules further enhance employability and practical experience. Accredited by the Royal Geographical Society, the degree equips graduates with the knowledge, analytical skills, and practical experience needed for careers in environmental management, sustainability, policy, and research, while fostering an understanding of local and global geographical challenges.
