COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Criminology and Psychology is a three-year interdisciplinary program requiring 120 credits per year and combining the study of criminal justice with psychological science. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through compulsory modules covering vulnerability and risk in criminal justice, criminal psychology, social influence, and introductions to criminology and criminal justice, with options to study in English or Welsh. Core psychology modules introduce key concepts in brain and mind, stress and mental health, and develop essential scientific writing and communication skills. Year 2 deepens psychological knowledge through compulsory study of social, cognitive, personality, and clinical psychology, alongside optional modules such as developmental, biological, or behavioural psychology. Criminology study progresses with compulsory modules in criminological theory and crime and justice in modern Britain, complemented by optional choices including digital policing and e-crime or injustice and protest. In Year 3, students integrate advanced psychological and criminological perspectives through compulsory modules in cognitive neuroscience, forensic psychology, and an evidence-based policing dissertation. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as serial killers, policing and security, punishment and justice, counselling skills, or the social brain. Overall, the program develops analytical, research, and applied skills for careers in criminal justice, psychology-related fields, and public services.
