COURSE CURRICULUM

This creative arts degree offers a flexible, interdisciplinary pathway that allows students to explore and specialise across media, film, music, theatre, and cultural studies. In Year 1, students begin with a compulsory module introducing creative arts practice, supported by a wide range of optional modules covering media, journalism, visual culture, music composition, theatre making, screenwriting, film language, and media production. These options, delivered in English or Welsh, help students develop core creative, analytical, and technical skills while discovering their preferred discipline. Year 2 builds on this foundation by offering advanced and applied modules in areas such as film history and theory, media and politics, climate change and culture, AI ethics, documentary and short film production, community arts, professional practice, and music composition. Students can further develop performance, writing, or production skills while strengthening research methods and industry awareness. In Year 3, the program culminates in a major research or creative practice dissertation, allowing students to produce an extended academic or practice-based project. Alongside this, students choose from advanced optional modules in film, journalism, publishing, music, theatre, screenwriting, and directing, with opportunities to study cultural theory, industry practice, and contemporary creative forms. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in the creative industries, media, arts organisations, or for further postgraduate study.
