COURSE CURRICULUM

The taught stage of the MSc Cyber Security Management programme provides a comprehensive understanding of cyber security, digital risk management, emerging technologies, and strategic leadership in a rapidly evolving digital environment. Students begin with Innovation in the UK and Global Business Environment, where they examine how technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and the Internet of Things are transforming industries and driving digital innovation. The module develops an understanding of emerging business models, digital transformation strategies, and leadership challenges in global organisations. Strategic Digital Forensic Management equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to investigate cybercrime incidents, collect and analyse digital evidence, and present findings while considering legal, ethical, and corporate governance requirements. In Management of Cryptosystems, students explore blockchain technology, cryptoassets, decentralised finance, applied cryptography, and distributed system security, gaining practical experience in assessing and managing opportunities and risks associated with emerging financial technologies. The Cyber Security Risk Management and Governance module focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating cyber risks through threat modelling, security policy development, incident response planning, business continuity strategies, and the application of recognised cyber security frameworks. Managing Offensive Cyber Security Operations introduces the principles of offensive security management, enabling students to oversee penetration testing campaigns, vulnerability assessments, red-team activities, and security testing operations while operating within legal and ethical frameworks. AI: Vision and Reality provides a broad understanding of artificial intelligence by examining its history, evolution, capabilities, limitations, and societal implications, encouraging critical evaluation of modern AI applications and future developments. A major component of the programme is the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Project, where students work in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams to address real-world client challenges using design thinking, sustainability principles, and collaborative problem-solving techniques. Throughout the programme, students develop technical expertise, strategic decision-making abilities, leadership capabilities, and practical experience in managing cyber security challenges. Collectively, the modules prepare graduates to protect organisational assets, manage cyber risks, oversee digital investigations, evaluate emerging technologies, and lead cyber security initiatives across a wide range of industries and organisational settings.
