COURSE CURRICULUM

The taught stage of the MSc Computer Science programme provides a comprehensive foundation in software development, computing theory, project management, and strategic business understanding. Students begin with Fundamentals of Digital Technologies, where they build essential mathematical, programming, and algorithmic skills using Python while exploring concepts in computer science, data science, and artificial intelligence. Software Engineering introduces the complete software development life cycle, covering requirements analysis, software design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Students learn to apply industry-standard methodologies, modelling techniques such as UML, and contemporary software development practices to create robust, ethical, and maintainable software solutions. In Software Project Management, students develop the ability to plan, execute, monitor, and evaluate software projects, gaining practical knowledge of scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, quality assurance, and stakeholder engagement. The Data Structures and Algorithms module provides a deep understanding of fundamental computing concepts, including abstract data types, trees, sets, sorting, and searching algorithms. Students learn to analyse algorithm efficiency and select optimal solutions for complex software development challenges. Database Systems focuses on designing, implementing, and evaluating modern database solutions through data modelling, entity-relationship design, SQL programming, and the use of both relational and NoSQL database technologies. Students gain the skills required to develop scalable and data-driven applications that meet organisational needs. Strategic Management complements the technical modules by developing students’ ability to analyse business environments, formulate strategic decisions, and evaluate organisational performance while considering ethics, sustainability, and corporate responsibility. A significant component of the programme is the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Project, where students work in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams to solve real-world client challenges. Through design thinking, leadership, teamwork, and sustainability-focused approaches, they develop innovative solutions while enhancing professional and interpersonal skills. Together, these modules provide a balanced combination of technical expertise, analytical thinking, project management capabilities, and collaborative experience, preparing graduates for careers in software engineering, systems development, database management, technology consulting, and a wide range of computing-related professions in modern digital organisations.
