COURSE CURRICULUM

The taught stage of the MSc Supply Chain and Logistics Management programme at Aston Business School provides a structured 90-credit foundation designed to develop both managerial and technical expertise in modern supply chain and engineering-related operations. Students begin with Strategic Management and Finance in Engineering, which develops an understanding of financial decision-making, budgeting and strategic planning within engineering and industrial contexts, alongside Engineering Project Management, which focuses on planning, executing and controlling complex engineering projects using established management tools and methodologies. Human Resources and Change Management in Engineering explores organisational behaviour, leadership and workforce management, particularly in environments undergoing technological or structural change. The Aston Global Advantage module runs throughout the programme to develop professional skills, employability and career readiness through structured personal and professional development. Strategic Supply Chain Management provides a core understanding of how global supply chains are designed, managed and optimised to improve efficiency, resilience and performance, while Logistics and Transportation Systems focuses on the movement, storage and distribution of goods across supply networks, including transport planning and infrastructure considerations. In addition, students choose one specialist stream to tailor their learning. The Supply Chain Management Stream includes Simulation for Managerial Decision Making, which uses modelling techniques to support operational and strategic decisions, and Operational Effectiveness, Lean and Agile Manufacturing, which focuses on improving efficiency, reducing waste and enhancing responsiveness in production systems. Alternatively, the Sustainable Engineering Stream includes Environmental Regulations and Impact Assessment, which examines environmental compliance and sustainability frameworks, and Pathways to Net Zero, which explores strategies for reducing carbon emissions and achieving sustainability targets in engineering and industrial systems. Overall, the taught stage equips students with a blend of strategic, operational and analytical skills necessary for leadership roles in global supply chain, logistics and sustainable engineering environments.
