COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Project Management programme is structured across a taught stage delivered over three terms, designed to progressively build technical, analytical and professional capabilities required for modern project leadership. In Term 1, students are introduced to core analytical and operational foundations through modules such as Data Mining and Visualisation, which develops skills in data analysis, statistical learning, dashboard design and data-driven decision-making using real-world datasets, Agile Project Management, which focuses on iterative delivery methods, adaptability, ethical governance and rapid innovation in dynamic environments, and Simulation for Project Management, where students use tools such as SIMUL8 to model project scenarios, optimise resources, manage risk and evaluate “what-if” outcomes to improve decision-making and strategic thinking. In Term 2, learning shifts toward applied project practice and professional development through Managing Projects, which strengthens understanding of project structures, tools and techniques used to control time, cost and quality across industries, and The Aston Global Advantage, a continuous employability-focused module that develops transferable skills, leadership capability and career readiness. Students also select one optional module, either Sustainability in International Business, which explores corporate responsibility and sustainable strategies in global markets, or Project Cost Analysis and Optimisation, which focuses on budgeting, financial control, cost efficiency and resource optimisation to improve project performance and sustainability. In Term 3, the programme advances into higher-level strategic, analytical and research-focused learning through Global Risk and Resilience Management, which examines risk governance, sustainability frameworks and real-world stakeholder engagement through interactive simulations, Effective Management Consultancy, which applies Soft Systems Methodology to complex real-world business and social problems aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, and Applied Research Methods and Skills, which develops advanced research design, critical evaluation and ethical inquiry skills for evidence-based decision-making. Overall, the structure ensures a gradual progression from technical foundations to strategic leadership, equipping students with the analytical, practical and consultancy skills required for global project management careers.
