COURSE CURRICULUM

Fluid-Structure Interaction examines the complex relationship between fluid flows and structural behaviour, providing students with the analytical and computational skills required to model and evaluate engineering systems where fluids and structures interact. New Engines and Alternative Fuels explores emerging propulsion technologies, advanced engine systems, and sustainable fuel alternatives designed to reduce emissions and improve environmental performance within transport and industrial sectors. The Aston Global Advantage module supports professional development by enhancing leadership, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and employability skills through multidisciplinary activities and real-world challenges. The programme’s largest module, Multiphysics System Design, integrates multiple engineering disciplines to address complex engineering problems involving thermal, mechanical, fluid, and structural systems. Students learn how to use advanced computational tools and modelling techniques to design, analyse, optimise, and evaluate sophisticated engineering systems. Through a combination of theoretical study, practical application, simulation-based learning, and industry-relevant projects, the programme develops strong technical, analytical, and professional competencies. The curriculum emphasises innovation, sustainability, digital engineering, and emerging technologies while preparing students for professional engineering practice and progression towards Chartered Engineer status. Together, these modules provide a comprehensive understanding of modern mechanical engineering and equip graduates with the advanced knowledge, problem-solving abilities, computational expertise, and industry-ready skills required for careers in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, energy, manufacturing, engineering consultancy, renewable technologies, and advanced product development.
