COURSE CURRICULUM
The taught stage of the MSc Future Vehicle Technologies programme provides a comprehensive foundation in the advanced technologies driving the transformation of the automotive industry. Students study Machine Learning, which introduces artificial intelligence techniques used for data analysis, predictive modelling, autonomous systems, and intelligent vehicle applications. Smart Sensors and Control Systems focuses on the sensors, monitoring technologies, and control strategies that enable modern vehicles to operate safely, efficiently, and autonomously. Hybrid and Electric Powertrains develops an in-depth understanding of electrified propulsion systems, including electric motors, batteries, energy management systems, and hybrid vehicle architectures. Vehicle Automation and Connectivity explores autonomous driving technologies, connected vehicle systems, vehicle-to-vehicle communication, and intelligent transportation networks that support safer and more efficient mobility. New Engines and Alternative Fuels examines advanced engine technologies, sustainable propulsion methods, low-carbon fuels, and strategies for reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency. Future Vehicle Design, the largest module within the programme, integrates engineering principles and innovative design approaches to develop next-generation vehicles that meet future technological, environmental, and market requirements. This module enables students to apply their knowledge to complex design challenges while considering performance, sustainability, safety, and user needs. In addition, students undertake the Aston Global Advantage module, which focuses on professional development, employability, leadership, teamwork, communication, and other transferable skills valued by employers. Collectively, these modules provide a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, practical engineering skills, digital technologies, and industry-focused learning. Students develop expertise in electrification, automation, connectivity, artificial intelligence, sustainable propulsion systems, and vehicle design, preparing them for careers in automotive engineering, electric vehicle development, autonomous systems, research and development, transportation technology, and advanced manufacturing. The programme equips graduates with the technical competence and innovative mindset required to contribute to the development of safer, smarter, more efficient, and environmentally sustainable vehicles in the rapidly evolving global mobility sector.
