This MSc Financial Technology programme provides an in-depth understanding of financial markets, investment analysis, financial technology, data analytics, and emerging digital innovations, preparing students for careers in the rapidly evolving fintech sector. In Term 1, Private Equity and Venture Capital introduces the principles of venture capital and private equity, focusing on company valuation, investment assessment, deal structuring, negotiation strategies, exit routes, and the role of these investments in supporting innovation and economic growth. Introduction to Financial Econometrics develops analytical and technical skills through the application of econometric methods and statistical software to financial data, enabling students to solve real-world financial problems while incorporating ethical and ESG considerations into decision-making. Students also choose one optional module. Advanced Corporate Finance explores cost of capital, investment appraisal, capital structure, dividend policies, initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. Trading Techniques develops knowledge of market structures, trading strategies, technical analysis, behavioural finance, and market dynamics. Alternatively, AI and Automation in Accounting and Finance examines artificial intelligence, automation technologies, and their applications in financial and accounting environments through practical projects and case studies. In Term 2, Emerging Topics in FinTech investigates innovative financial technologies, digital currencies, open banking, fintech business models, and their impact on financial services, while Blockchain and FinTech provides a comprehensive understanding of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and their applications across global financial markets. Students also undertake The Aston Global Advantage, a professional development programme focused on employability and transferable skills. In Term 3, Foundations of Financial Markets and Technology explores financial markets, intermediaries, financial instruments, and the influence of technological innovation on financial systems. Python for Finance develops practical programming skills for financial analysis, data processing, and problem-solving using Python, a highly valued skill in modern finance. Applied Research Methods and Skills strengthens research, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities through the study of research methodologies and analytical techniques. Together, these modules combine financial expertise, technological innovation, quantitative analysis, and professional development, equipping graduates with the knowledge and practical skills required to succeed in the global fintech and financial services industries.
