COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Business Analytics program is structured across taught and dissertation stages to develop strong analytical, technical, and professional skills aligned with industry needs. During the taught stage, students complete a range of core and optional modules delivered over three terms. In Term 1, core modules include Predictive Analytics, which builds foundations in data analysis, visualisation, preprocessing, and statistical learning using real-world datasets, and Programming for Data Analytics, which develops essential skills in Python, R, and SQL for business problem-solving. Students also choose one optional module from Machine Learning for Business Analytics, Simulation for Managerial Decision Making, or Digital Marketing. In Term 2, students study Decision Models, focusing on mathematical and analytical approaches to improved decision-making, alongside The Aston Global Advantage, a professional development module embedded throughout the program. One optional module is selected from Performance Analytics, Business Forecasting, Advanced Spreadsheets and Databases, or Blockchain and Fintech. In Term 3, core modules include Descriptive Analytics, which emphasises data storytelling, visualisation, and sustainability-focused business reporting, and Effective Management Consulting, which uses systems thinking and real-world challenges aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Following the taught stage, students progress to the dissertation stage, applying their skills to an independent analytics-focused research project.
