COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics with Economics program at Aston University provides a structured curriculum that combines advanced mathematical techniques with key economic principles. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in both subjects through modules such as Introductory Mathematics for Engineering, Digital, and Physical Sciences, Probability, Introductory Programming for Engineering and Physical Sciences, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Statistics. Additional modules like Power Skills and the Interdisciplinary Design Project help students develop teamwork, problem-solving, and communication abilities while applying mathematical and economic ideas to real-world scenarios. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of mathematical theory and economic analysis through modules including Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations and their Methods, Numerical Methods, and Introduction to Machine Learning. They also study Intermediate Microeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics, alongside a Mathematics Team Project that develops collaborative and analytical skills. The program includes a placement year, giving students the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience with support from the university’s careers and placements team. In the final year, students study advanced topics such as Partial Differential Equations, Computational Mathematics, Further Topics in Microeconomics, and Further Topics in Macroeconomics. The program also includes Financial Mathematics modules and a Mathematics Major Project, allowing students to apply their knowledge to complex economic and mathematical problems.
