COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics program at Aston University provides a comprehensive curriculum that develops strong mathematical knowledge alongside practical analytical and computational skills. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through modules such as Introductory Mathematics for Engineering, Digital, and Physical Sciences, Probability, Introductory Programming for Engineering and Physical Sciences, Mathematical Modelling, Introduction to Calculus, Statistics, Power Skills, and an Interdisciplinary Design Project. These subjects introduce key mathematical principles, programming basics, and analytical techniques used in real-world applications. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of advanced mathematical concepts through modules including Vector Calculus, Analysis, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations and their Methods, Numerical Methods, and Introduction to Machine Learning. Additional modules such as the Mathematics Team Project and Ethics, EDI and Sustainability help develop teamwork, problem-solving, and ethical awareness in mathematical practice. In the final year, students study advanced topics including Partial Differential Equations, Computational Mathematics, Optimisation, and complete a Mathematics Major Project that allows them to apply their knowledge to a research-based problem. Students also select optional modules such as Game Theory or Time Series and specialise in a chosen stream including Modelling, Finance, or Data Science, allowing them to focus on areas aligned with their career interests.
