COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics degree at Aston University provides a comprehensive program that combines theoretical foundations with applied economic analysis, preparing students for careers in economics, policy, finance, and related fields. In the first year, students build core knowledge through modules including Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Political Economy, Mathematics and Statistics for Economics, Applied Topics in Economics, Games and Economic Behaviour, and Introduction to the Business Environment. These modules develop analytical, quantitative, and critical thinking skills while introducing students to economic decision-making and real-world applications. The second year advances students’ understanding with Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and a two-part Econometrics sequence, alongside optional modules such as Industrial Organisation, Measuring the Economy, Sports Economics, Applied Business Economics, International Business Economics, Business Management Simulation, International Business and Emerging Market Economies, and Strategic Finance, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests. In the final year, students consolidate their learning with Further Topics in Microeconomics, Further Topics in Macroeconomics, and Advanced Econometrics, while selecting 75 credits from optional modules including Applied Economics Research Project, Competition Policy, Labour Economics, Public Economics, Behavioural Economics, Environmental Economics, International Trade, Economics of Entrepreneurship, Derivatives, and Topics in Regional and Urban Economics. This structure equips graduates with strong analytical, quantitative, and research skills, enabling them to understand economic issues, interpret data, and contribute effectively to decision-making in a range of professional settings.
