COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Cybersecurity degree at Aston University provides a rigorous and practical education in cybersecurity, combining technical expertise with professional and ethical awareness. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in computing and digital systems through modules such as Introductory Mathematics for Digital Science, Fundamentals of Digital Systems, Introductory Programming, Cybersecurity Fundamentals, Internet Applications and Databases, and Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Power Skills and an Interdisciplinary Design Project develop essential teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced technical and security-focused modules, including Applied Cryptography, Human Factors in Security, Secure Networks and Operating Systems, Security Operations, Software Engineering, and Data Structures, Algorithms and Object-Oriented Programming. Students also engage in team projects and explore ethics, equality, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability to prepare for real-world professional challenges. In the final year, students undertake an Individual Project and study Risk Management and Security Governance and Software Security, while choosing from optional modules such as Cybercrime and Cyber Laws, Distributed Systems and Blockchain, Digital Forensics, DevSecOps, Ethical Hacking, and Privacy Engineering. This structure equips graduates with the technical, analytical, and ethical skills necessary to address complex cybersecurity threats, pursue careers in digital security, ethical hacking, forensics, and information governance, and adapt to evolving technological challenges.
