COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree at Aston University provides a comprehensive program that combines theoretical knowledge with practical engineering experience. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in electrical and electronic principles through modules such as Electronics 1 and 2, Electrical Principles, Engineering Science, Introductory Mathematics and Programming for Engineering, and an Interdisciplinary Design Project, alongside Power Skills that enhance teamwork and communication. The second year focuses on more advanced technical topics, including Analogue and Power Electronics, Robot Control, Signals and Systems, Embedded Systems and C, Communications Systems, Digital Design, and Electrical Power Systems. Students also work on an Electronic Engineering Team Project, which helps develop collaborative problem-solving and practical engineering skills. An optional placement year allows students to gain valuable professional experience in industry with support from the Careers and Placements team. In the final year, students complete a Final Year Project and study Professional Engineering Practice and Internet of Things, while choosing additional specialist modules such as Measurement, Automation and Data Processing or Digital Signal Processing. Students can also select a specialised stream in Digital Systems, Electrical Systems, or Communication Systems, depending on their interests. This structured program equips graduates with the technical expertise, practical skills, and professional knowledge needed for careers in electronics, communications, power systems, automation, and emerging technology sectors.
