COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Electronic Engineering and Computer Science degree at Aston University offers an integrated program that combines electronics and computing to develop the skills needed for modern technology careers. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in both disciplines through modules such as Electronics 1 and 2, Introductory Mathematics and Programming for Engineering, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and Internet Applications and Databases. Students also complete an Interdisciplinary Design Project and Power Skills module, which help develop teamwork, communication, and practical problem-solving abilities. In the second year, the program advances into more specialised topics including Analogue and Power Electronics, Robot Control, Data Structures, Algorithms and Object-Oriented Programming, Embedded Systems and C, Communication Systems, Digital Design, and Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Students also work on an Electronic Engineering Team Project, gaining hands-on experience in collaborative engineering and system development. In the final year, students focus on advanced applications through modules such as Internet of Things, Digital Systems Design, Professional Engineering Practice, and a major Final Year Project. They can also choose optional modules including Digital Signal Processing, Autonomous Robotics and Navigation, Computer Animation, Software Testing, Digital Systems Hardware, Adaptive and Intelligent Robotic Systems, Data Mining, Cloud Computing and DevOps, or Game Development. This structure equips graduates with expertise in both hardware and software technologies for diverse engineering and computing careers.
