COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree at Aston University provides a structured program that develops strong technical knowledge and practical engineering skills. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through modules such as Electronics 1 and 2, Electrical Principles, Engineering Science, Introductory Mathematics for Engineering, and Introductory Programming for Engineering and Physical Sciences. Students also complete an Interdisciplinary Design Project and Power Skills module, which develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities. In the second year, the program advances into more specialised engineering topics, including Analogue and Power Electronics, Robot Control, Signals and Systems, Embedded Systems and C, Communications Systems, Digital Design, and Electrical Power Systems. Students also work on an Electronic Engineering Team Project, gaining practical experience in collaborative engineering design and system development. In the final year, students undertake a major Final Year Project and study Professional Engineering Practice and Internet of Things, which focus on real-world applications and modern technological systems. In addition, students select optional modules such as Measurement, Automation and Data Processing or Digital Signal Processing, and choose a specialist stream in Digital Systems, Electrical Systems, or Communication Systems. These options allow students to tailor their studies to their interests while developing expertise in advanced technologies, preparing them for careers in electronics, power systems, communications, and emerging engineering industries.
