COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA User Experience (UX/UI) course is a research-led, practice-focused program that develops critically engaged and reflective practitioners. It begins with the Explore unit, which situates UX/UI within broader cultural, social, and ethical contexts, prompting students to examine issues such as data ethics, platform politics, accessibility, digital wellbeing, and algorithmic bias. Through lectures, seminars, and studio enquiry, students are encouraged to critically reflect on their design values and understand how user experience interacts with wider systems of power and behaviour. The Evaluate unit builds on this foundation by advancing technical and creative skills through research and prototyping, including interaction design, inclusive testing strategies, immersive technologies, and AI-assisted tools. Students are guided to assess emerging UX/UI practices, challenge dominant methodologies, and propose innovative approaches, supported by tutorials and critiques that align theory with practice. The course culminates in the Innovate unit, a self-directed Final Major Project where students identify a research challenge or design enquiry and develop an original UX/UI response. Outputs may include high-fidelity prototypes, speculative artefacts, or service proposals, accompanied by a written evaluation contextualising the work. By the end of the course, graduates are equipped with a strong critical foundation, advanced design expertise, and the confidence to lead, innovate, and shape the future of UX/UI design across diverse professional and research contexts.
