COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Transformative Learning course is structured around five integrated units delivered over three years, each designed to build a comprehensive understanding of learning, creativity, and human development. The first unit, Holistic Ways of Seeing, introduces foundational approaches through direct engagement with natural phenomena, encouraging students to develop careful observation and perceptual awareness. The Living World extends this through studio practice, exploring plant forms and material engagement to deepen practical and analytical skills. Organism and Environment investigates co-evolutionary relationships between living organisms and their ecological contexts, fostering an understanding of interdependence and sustainability. Evolution of Consciousness examines human consciousness and cultural development, providing insight into how learning can effect transformation at both individual and societal levels. The final unit, Researching Transformative Learning, supports students in developing and applying original contributions to the field, integrating theory, practice, and critical reflection. Learning is delivered through a combination of field-based investigation in natural settings, studio-based observational practice, research seminars that explore philosophical and critical perspectives, craft workshops to cultivate interdisciplinary and professional skills, and individual projects that apply knowledge to creative and practical contexts. This structure ensures students emerge with the skills, insight, and reflective capacity to innovate and contribute meaningfully to education, creative practice, and research in transformative learning.
