COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Animation Production course is designed to support students in developing a specialist practice in animation, whether their interest lies in 2D/drawn animation, CG, stop motion, or another form. The course encourages students to produce high-quality work that brings together the key strands of theory, practice, and professionalism. It comprises three 60-credit units – Defining Practice, Consolidating Practice, and Resolving Practice – providing a structured progression through the degree. Students engage with the course through their own area of focus, which could involve any aspect of animation, including pre-production roles like character design, storyboarding, or concept development, as well as production and post-production roles such as puppet-making or costume design for animation. While making an animated film is one possible outcome, the course also allows for the development of a specialised MA-level portfolio in any animation-related field. The structure of the course supports the evolution of a student's creative identity and enables them to explore ideas and techniques while deepening their theoretical and professional understanding. For those already working in the animation industry, the part-time route offers a flexible option to refine their skills and produce a significant body of work over two years.
