COURSE CURRICULUM

The three-year structure of the BA (Hons) Make-up, Hair and Prosthetics guides you from essential foundational skills to becoming an independent, industry-ready practitioner. In the first year, you develop core creative, technical and analytical abilities through practical workshops and supervised projects in make-up, hair design, prosthetics, wigs and postiche, while also strengthening interpersonal and communication skills vital for working with performers and collaborators. You begin documenting your work professionally and build research, reflective and writing skills that support your creative development. The second year deepens these foundations as you refine technical abilities and start identifying your specialist interests. You gain a clearer understanding of the make-up artist’s role within creative teams and develop employability skills through live projects in film, performance, photoshoots and events. These experiences build your confidence, precision and contextual understanding of make-up as a transformative practice. In the final year, you work with greater independence, using research, critical inquiry and practical exploration to define your artistic direction. You are encouraged to take creative risks, pursue ambitious ideas and articulate your professional goals through written and practical work. This final stage strengthens your portfolio, deepens your specialist practice and prepares you for a confident transition into professional environments.
