COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Games Art and Design course progresses from foundational learning to professional readiness across three years. In the first year, you develop an essential understanding of how games are created, beginning with concepts of identity, avatar and character design, alongside core principles of game mechanics, aesthetics, software skills and concept art. You also explore the history and evolution of play and the importance of storytelling in shaping engaging game experiences. In the second year, you build on this foundation by assessing your strengths through a skills audit and working collaboratively in roles that mirror industry practice. This year deepens your awareness of how gender, identity and values influence game design, encouraging socially conscious creative decisions. You also take on competition briefs, entrepreneurial tasks and a self-initiated project to broaden your creative and professional skill set. The final year focuses on preparing you for employment or postgraduate study through industry-set projects and the development of a comprehensive portfolio. Your Final Major Project becomes the centrepiece of your creative identity, supported by an industry-focused report and reflective journal, helping you clarify your professional direction and confidently transition into the games industry.
